Do you have a friend that throws his back out two or three times a year? Don’t they always seem to do it in the simplest way, sleeping a little awkward, looking over his shoulder to change lanes in his car (ya imagine that). Your friend doesn’t have a bad back, he has weak abs. Maybe if he trained them regularly he wouldn’t be one of the millions of men who suffer from back pain every year.
Since the majority of back pain comes from having weak muscles in your core, keeping a strong midsection can help fix many back issues. Did you know that the muscles that crisscross your midsection don’t function in isolation? They weave through your torso like a spider web, even attaching to your spine. When you have weak abs, your butt muscles (glutes) and along the back of your legs (hamstrings) compensate for the work your abs should be doing. A weak trunk, beside promoting bad morale for the muscles picking up the abs slack, is that it destabilizes the spine and eventually leads to back pain and strain - and eventually to more serious back problems.
